Stretch Marks Reduction

Stretch Marks Reduction

Stretch Marks are lesions on the skin that occurs when the skin reaches the limit of its elasticity and create a mark to expand to accommodate the additional space that one needs as one gets bigger. Initially, they are red and as time goes forward they turn into pale white colour. These lesions are most commonly on buttock, abdomen, breast, upper arm and generally occur when there is a rapid expansion of skin area. The rapid expansion of the skin can occur during puberty, pregnancy or instant weight gain.

Treatment

  • Certain ointments and scar creams are beneficial to reduce the appearance.
  • Exfoliation, microdermabrasion and chemical peels can help to take off those top layer of the dead skin and help to blend it in with the normal skin.
  • Lasers are also very effective tools in reduction of Stretch Mark. There are a few different kinds of laser that are effective if the stretch marks are red. We, at Doctor’s Point, use IPL or V beam laser treat Stretch mark and to make it less noticeable. If you have a situation where your stretch mark is older and white in colour, Fractional lasers are a good option to blur it with the rest of the skin. 1540 erbium fractional laser is the only FDA approved laser for the treatment of the Stretch Mark. So, we at our clinic use this to treat Stretch Marks on different part of the body.
  • Lastly, the most aggressive option is surgical excision so, if you have Stretch Mark down your abdomen you can opt for a tummy tuck in which plastic surgeons removes the area of skin with stretch mark and just tuck it down. The main issue with Tummy Tuck is that is you will end up with scarring.
